Hi all,
I have a question about the AG wire hairbrushes. Do they work well and are they durable? Are they worth buying? I've heard that you're supposed to comb straight-haired dolls with a wire wig brush, but I looked at the hairbrushes at AGPLA and they looked sort of delicate to me. My doll's hair can get tangled sometimes, and I don't want a brush with bristles that will bend or pop out easily.
In the meantime, though, I've been using a regular plastic-bristle brush for my doll's hair and it seems to be working fine. I just want to make sure that I'm not inadvertently destroying her hair.
Thanks!

DD has had her brush for 3 years and we have had no problems with it at all. I'm sure some others will knowmore than I but I think wire wig brush is highly recommended. I also knowyou should never use the same brush that was used on human hair because of the oil. DD also always mists her dolls hair as she is brushing it.

We've had our brush for about 3 1/2 years, and have only lost one bristle. The key is starting at the bottom, brushing the bottom inch, then going up and brushing the bottom 2 inches, then 3, etc. And as the previous poster said, misting it if you need to.

AAAAHHH!!! PLEASE don't use plastic bristles!! They can snag the hair, and add static electricity, so I'm told.
I bought a used AG brush from ebay over a year and a half ago(when I first started collecting), and it's still going strong--all bristles, like new. Of course, mine is plastic, and says Pleasant Company on the back. My niece just got her first AG (Molly) a few months ago, and a hairbrush, too. Her hairbrush has a wooden handle, and says American Girl on the back--it looks sturdier, too. I'm thinking I'll get one of those as a backup---I'm always laying mine down, and then having to look all over for it.
The AG brushes are good quality, and a good investment--I highly recommend one! (The right tool for the right job, and all that.)
If you think they're overpriced, you can try ebay to save a buck or two, but you'll get it faster if you just order one from AG.
Just my humble opinion...

I never had an AG brush when I was a kid. I did have a brush that was just for my AG's, but I think it was a wire wig brush. I had to send Samantha in for a new head, and I rewigged my AGT, lol. I was really quite careful with their hair (and my AGT had bad hair from the beginning).
I bought the AG brush when I bought Felicity in 2004, and now use the one brush on all my doll's hair. I've played with their hair as much now as I did when I was little (perhaps being a bit more careful), and almost all of my dolls (Sam and Josefina being the exceptions) have great hair still.
I think most everyone here would definitely recommend the AG brush, or a similar sized wire wig brush. The brushes are very sturdy, I've been using the same one for 2 years now, and although I'm an adult, my dolls get their hair restyled very often. I haven't had any of the bristles pop out, but I have had some of the paint fall off, but that doesn't do anything to the brush, itself.
Others have already covered the other steps, starting at the ends, and misting if you want to.

My nieces PM Kristen has really bad hair. I order a new brush and when it came by UPS my friend was over. We took it out of the box and started bushing the dolls hair. With in 1 min of using it, the whole bristle part popped right out. If I put it back in, it came back out.'
I called AG, CS. They said no problem, they would sent another one right now. They did. I had it 2 days later, (and didn't have to send back the new one.) Now I have 2, but one we have to be very gental with or it will pop out again. The new one has been fine.
I think they are worth it, they really aren't too much $6 isn't bad considerig.

I would really recommend using a wire wig brush, since that's what people have found works best, whether on people wigs or doll wigs. Unfortunately, you're right about the AG one is a bit delicate. My friend was using it on her doll and the entire head popped out. Yep, not a pin--but the whole head! I was able to fix it easily using glue, and haven't had a problem since. Their instructions for how to brush hair should keep it in good condition and from breaking.

Okay, take is easy on me folks....
I have an AG wire brush, and I love it.
But- if you just really do not want to order one from AG, I have seen some nice wire brushes in the pet section at my local Dollar Tree- They are a tiny bit larger than AG, but they have the same type of shiny wire bristles.I think something like that would be better than a normal plastic bristled brush.

the current version of the AG hairbrush is MUCH better than the old PM version. I have both and on the old original version, some of the wires have popped out and it's not very sturdy. The new one is much sturdier and doesn't break. I would definately get the AG brush if I were you.
